Gun control is a volatile issue in our country. America’s pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history. But do guns make us more safe? In the United States civilians own almost four million guns – the highest total and per capita number in the world. More than 60 percent of people in this country who die from guns die by suicide. Mass killings in the United States, as with the most recent events, are repeatedly carried out with legally obtained firearms.
